*R.E.P.O.*, the chilling co-op horror game that debuted in February, has captured the attention of gamers, with over 200,000 players diving into the experience on PC. However, console players eager to join the fray might be left in the dark. As it stands, *R.E.P.O.* is exclusively available on PC, and there's no indication from its developer, semiwork, that a console version is in the works or even under consideration.
The team at semiwork is currently focused on refining the game's multiplayer features, which are central to *R.E.P.O.*'s gameplay. They're grappling with a significant challenge: balancing the need for robust anti-cheat systems with the desire to maintain a mod-friendly environment. "The main issue with matchmaking lobbies is hackers. But the issue with an anti-cheat system is that you’re ruining the experience for everyone who has made mods, because mods don’t work with an anti-cheat system. And we don’t want that," the developer explained to PCGamer. This issue must be resolved before any thoughts of a console port can be entertained.
While other PC-exclusive titles like *Mouthwashing* have made the leap to consoles, it's worth noting that *Mouthwashing* is a single-player game, which simplifies the transition. Similarly themed games such as *Lethal Company* and *Content Warning*, which also involve sneaking past monsters, have remained PC-only. Last year, the developers of *Content Warning* hinted at a potential console release but cited technical difficulties as a barrier. Since then, there has been no further news on a console version.
In summary, *R.E.P.O.*'s future on consoles remains uncertain. The developer's priority is clearly on enhancing the PC version's multiplayer experience, leaving console gamers waiting on the sidelines for now.
