Final Fantasy VII Rebirth PC Version: Director Discusses Mods and DLC Possibilities
The director of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Naoki Hamaguchi, recently shed light on the PC version of the game, addressing player inquiries regarding mods and potential DLC. Read on for details.
DLC: A Fan-Driven Decision
While the development team initially considered adding episodic DLC to the PC release, Hamaguchi revealed in a December 13th Epic Games blog post that prioritizing completion of the trilogy's final installment takes precedence. Resource constraints led to the decision to forgo additional content for now. However, Hamaguchi emphasized a willingness to consider player feedback: Significant player demand for specific DLC could influence future development.
A Message to Modders
Although the game lacks official mod support, Hamaguchi addressed the modding community directly. He expressed respect for their creativity but urged them to refrain from creating or distributing offensive or inappropriate content.
The potential for creative and enhancing mods is acknowledged, mirroring the impact mods have had on the gaming landscape, but the need to maintain appropriate content is paramount.
PC Version Enhancements
The PC version boasts improved visuals, including enhanced lighting and texture resolutions, addressing previous concerns about an "uncanny valley" effect in character models. Higher-spec PCs will benefit from significantly improved 3D models and textures beyond the capabilities of the PS5 version.
Porting the mini-games presented unique challenges, requiring extensive work on key configuration settings.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, the second part of the Remake trilogy, initially launched on PS5 on February 9, 2024, to widespread acclaim. The PC version will be available on Steam and the Epic Games Store starting January 23, 2025. For further information, explore our dedicated FF7 Rebirth article.
