Stardew Valley: A Complete Guide To Enchantments & Weapon Forging

Author: Blake Feb 01,2025

This guide details how to utilize Stardew Valley's Volcano Forge, focusing on weapon forging, enchantments, and the Mini-Forge. The 1.6 update significantly expanded these features.

Obtaining Cinder Shards:

Cinder Shard Node

Cinder Shards, essential for forge functions, are obtained by:

  • Mining Cinder Shard nodes (pink-orange specks) in the Volcano Dungeon.
  • Enemy drops (Magma Sprite, Magma Duggy, Magma Sparker, False Magma Cap – varying drop rates).
  • Fishing ponds with 7+ Stingrays (2-5 shards, 7-9% daily chance).

Cinder Shards cannot be duplicated in the Crystalarium.

The Mini-Forge:

Achieving Combat Mastery unlocks the Mini-Forge crafting recipe:

  • 5 Dragon Teeth
  • 10 Iron Bars
  • 10 Gold Bars
  • 5 Iridium Bars

It functions identically to the Volcano Forge.

Weapon Forging:

Weapon Forging

Weapons (up to three times) can be enhanced with gemstones:

  • Amethyst : +1 knockback per forge.
  • Aquamarine : +4.6% crit chance per forge.
  • Emerald : +2/+3/+2 speed per forge.
  • Jade : +10% crit damage per forge.
  • Ruby : +10% damage per forge.
  • Topaz : +1 defense per forge.
  • Diamond : Three random upgrades (10 Cinder Shards).

Cost increases with each forge (10/15/20 Cinder Shards).

Best Weapon Upgrades: Emerald & Ruby (high DPS) or Topaz & Amethyst (survival).

Unforging: Resets weapons, recovering some Cinder Shards but not gemstones.

Infinity Weapons:

Infinity Weapon

Galaxy Sword, Dagger, or Hammer can become Infinity Weapons using three Galaxy Souls (20 Cinder Shards each).

Galaxy Souls: Obtained via Mr. Qi, Big Slimes, Island Trader (post-50 Dangerous Monster kills), or Dangerous Monster drops.

Enchantments:

Enchanting

Tools/weapons (excluding slingshots) can be enchanted with a Prismatic Shard and 20 Cinder Shards. Effects are random.

Weapon Enchantments: Artful, Bug Killer, Crusader, Vampiric, Haymaker (Bug Killer and Crusader generally most useful).

Innate Enchantments: Use a Dragon Tooth to add one enchantment from each of two sets.

Tool Enchantments: Twelve enchantments, tool-specific. (Bottomless for Watering Can highly recommended).

Best Tool Enchantments: Axe (Shaving, Swift, Efficient); Watering Can (Bottomless); Hoe (Generous, Archeologist, Reaching, Efficient); Pickaxe (Swift, Powerful); Fishing Rod (Preserving); Pan (Generous, Reaching).
