The Last of Us Part 2 PC Port Will Require PSN Account

The Last of Us Part II Remastered's PC release on April 3rd, 2025, will necessitate a PlayStation Network (PSN) account, sparking controversy among potential players. This requirement, also present in previous PC ports of PlayStation exclusives, has drawn significant backlash. While Sony brings beloved titles to Steam, forcing PSN account creation or linking is a contentious decision.

The Last of Us Part I's successful PC port in 2022 paved the way for Part II's arrival. However, the PSN requirement, clearly stated on the Steam page, is likely to dampen enthusiasm for some. Players can link existing PSN accounts, but the added step is a frustration for many, particularly given the negative reception to similar requirements in the past. The notable example of Helldivers 2, where Sony reversed a planned PSN requirement due to strong player opposition, highlights this ongoing issue.

While PSN account linkage is understandable for games with multiplayer components or PlayStation overlays (like Ghost of Tsushima), its presence in a single-player title like The Last of Us Part II is puzzling. It's a strategic move by Sony to expand its user base and promote its services, but this tactic risks alienating PC gamers.

Creating a basic PSN account is free, but the extra step is inconvenient. Furthermore, PSN's global availability is limited, potentially excluding some players entirely. This restriction is particularly ironic given the Last of Us franchise's focus on accessibility, making the requirement even more contentious.
