Navigating Political Intrigue in The Living Lands

Obsidian Entertainment's Avowed offers players continuous opportunities to shape their character and influence the game's narrative. Game director Carrie Patel emphasizes that every decision, no matter how seemingly insignificant, contributes to the overall experience.

"It's about providing players with constant opportunities to express themselves and explore their character's alignment," Patel explains. She further notes the game's design encourages players to reflect on their engagement: "When am I most engaged? When am I curious? What keeps me invested?"

Player choices and their consequences are deeply intertwined with the exploration of Eora's intricate world, particularly The Living Lands, where political power is fiercely contested. Patel highlights the interconnectedness of the narrative threads within this setting.

"Meaningful roleplay comes from giving players rich content to explore," Patel states. "It's about defining who your character is and how the game's situations allow you to express that identity."

Beyond the intricate RPG mechanics, Avowed features strategic combat blending magic, swords, and firearms. Weapon choices and ability selections dramatically alter the gameplay experience with each playthrough, according to Patel.

In an interview with IGN, Patel confirmed the game boasts numerous endings, with a vast array of potential combinations. "We have double-digit ending slides, and countless combinations are possible," she reveals. "True to Obsidian's style, your ending is a direct reflection of your cumulative choices throughout the game, based on the content you've encountered and your actions within those encounters."
