Elden Ring Nightreign Matchmaking, Solo Expedition, and Other Improvements to Come

Author: Evelyn Jun 12,2025

Elden Ring Nightreign has officially launched, bringing fresh multiplayer action to PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. However, the game's release was met with matchmaking difficulties that frustrated players during the launch weekend. Developer FromSoftware swiftly responded, particularly addressing issues affecting PS4 and PS5 users via a Twitter (X) post on May 31.

Matchmaking Issues Explained

FromSoftware highlighted that players using NAT Type 3 on PlayStation consoles may experience disrupted matchmaking functionality over PSN. To resolve this, the team provided clear instructions: "Check your NAT type by navigating through the following steps: Home > Settings > Network > Connection Status > Check Connection Status."

In an earlier tweet, the developer advised affected players to restart the matchmaking process if they encountered issues. While no official patch has been announced for other platforms, the community remains hopeful for a broader solution in the near future.

Patch 1.02: Solo Expedition Enhancements

Just days after the game’s initial release, FromSoftware confirmed another update—Patch 1.02—aimed at improving the solo expedition experience. Announced via Twitter on May 30, this patch is expected to roll out soon, with more details promised as the update date approaches.

Among the key changes are the introduction of “Automatic Revival Upon Defeat” during solo expeditions and an increase in rune rewards. These adjustments aim to ease the intense difficulty associated with solo play, which many players consider the most challenging mode in Elden Ring Nightreign.

Community Feedback and Future Additions

Fans continue to request additional features such as a two-player co-op option, integrated communication tools, and cross-platform play. Although these enhancements aren’t live yet, FromSoftware has acknowledged player input and may introduce them in future updates.

Despite some shortcomings in its multiplayer mechanics, Elden Ring Nightreign has received “Mostly Positive” reviews on Steam. At Game8, we awarded the game an impressive 84 out of 100, praising its bold integration of FromSoftware’s signature punishing gameplay into a fast-paced multiplayer format that keeps players coming back for more.

While there are some balance issues and frustrations in both co-op and solo modes, the game still delivers an exhilarating experience filled with challenge and excitement. For a deeper dive into our thoughts on Elden Ring Nightreign, [ttpp] be sure to check out our full review.
