The weapon designs in Monster Hunter: World were a point of contention among fans, sparking curiosity about whether Monster Hunter Wilds would address these concerns. Although we've only glimpsed a few weapons from Wilds, it hasn't been enough to fully gauge their design philosophy—until now. Yuya Tokuda, the director of Monster Hunter Wilds, has provided clarity on this matter.
Discussing the Hope series armor and weapons, Tokuda explained, "Incidentally, weapon designs in Monster Hunter: World generally retained a certain form, but they featured a customized appearance based on which monster materials were used. However, in Wilds, each weapon has its own unique design."
This direct comparison to the design approach in Monster Hunter: World reassures fans that weapons in Monster Hunter Wilds won't suffer from the similarity issues seen in its predecessor. While some weapons in World eventually achieved unique appearances through upgrades, many remained visually similar. For instance, the final aqua line Sword and Shield closely resembles the final Pukei-Pukei Sword and Shield, and the final bone line Long Sword is nearly indistinguishable from the final Jyuratodus Long Sword, as seen in the image below, captured on PS4.
Contrastingly, the weapons showcased in Monster Hunter Wilds so far are undeniably unique, as you can see in the slideshow below.
