Disneyland and Walt Disney World are overhauling their Genie+ ride reservation system, effective July 2024. This significant update addresses guest concerns about the current system's limitations.
The biggest change? Guests can now book Lightning Lane reservations before arriving at the parks! Disney resort guests get a seven-day advance booking window, while other guests can book up to three days prior. This pre-arrival planning feature merges elements of the old FastPass+ system with the existing Genie+.
The Genie+ system itself will be rebranded as "Lightning Lane Multi-Pass," with individual Lightning Lane selections becoming "Lightning Lane Single Pass." While the booking and redemption process remains unchanged at Disneyland, Walt Disney World will experience the most significant alterations.
This revamp aims to streamline the process, offering guests more control over their park experience and eliminating the stress of last-minute booking. All attractions currently utilizing Genie+ will transition to the Lightning Lane Multi-Pass, including the newly opened Tiana's Bayou Adventure at Disney World. The Virtual Queue system will remain in place for select attractions.
Disney's announcement acknowledges previous criticism of the Genie+ system, particularly the requirement for same-day booking. This update allows for greater flexibility and pre-planning, especially beneficial during peak seasons and special events. Whether this overhaul fully satisfies guests remains to be seen, but the changes represent a significant effort to improve the guest experience.
