Warner Bros. Discovery announces HBO Max rebrand from Max streaming service

Warner Bros. Discovery has revealed its streaming service Max will revert to the HBO Max name starting this summer - just two years after its original rebranding.

Why HBO Max Is Coming Back

The dramatic about-face comes as WBD reports turning around its streaming business with nearly $3 billion in improved profitability. The platform, featuring hit shows like House of the Dragon and The Last of Us, has added 22 million subscribers in the past year.

"Our success comes from focusing on what works - HBO quality storytelling, recent blockbusters, and standout originals," the company explained. "We've shifted away from less engaging content categories to deliver what audiences truly want."

The Power of the HBO Brand

With countless streaming options available, the HBO name stands for premium content people are willing to pay for. "Today's viewers aren't asking for more content - they're demanding better content," WBD emphasized.

"No brand has consistently delivered distinctive, high-quality entertainment for over 50 years like HBO. Reincorporating this trusted name will strengthen our positioning in the competitive streaming landscape."

"HBO represents the gold standard in media quality. Bringing back this iconic brand will fuel our continued growth," said WBD CEO David Zaslav.

Streaming chief JB Perrette added: "We're focused on creating something special - not trying to be everything to everyone. Our content simply stands apart."

The transition comes as WBD projects surpassing 150 million global subscribers by 2026. HBO/Max content head Casey Bloys noted: "HBO Max better reflects what we deliver today - programming that lives up to HBO's legendary standard of being worth paying for."
