Four-lane Map Becomes Three Lanes

Deadlock's latest major update transforms its map from four lanes to three, streamlining the game's map structure and introducing several other enhancements. Valve shared the comprehensive details of the map rework and adjustments to other game mechanics on Steam on February 26, 2025.

The redesign involves converting the four lanes into three, accompanied by "a large range of map-wide changes including visuals, building layouts, pathways, neutral camps, air vents, breakables, powerup buffs, juke spots, mid boss, and more." While Deadlock stands out in the MOBA genre with its third-person perspective, the addition of a fourth lane initially added complexity to the typical three-lane format.

Moreover, the update simplifies farming enemy troopers, eliminating the need to last-hit them to summon Soul Orbs, which facilitates easier farming during early laning phases. The patch notes also promise improvements in the game's netcode and client performance.

Vital Update for Deadlock

This update could be the catalyst needed to reinvigorate the Deadlock community. In September 2024, the game experienced a surge in player numbers, reaching an all-time peak of 171,490 players. However, by this past month, the player count had dropped by 90%, to around 17,000.

Valve Developer Yoshi addressed the community in January 2025 via Deadlock’s Discord server, explaining the shift in their update schedule. He noted, "Going forward, major patches will no longer be on a fixed schedule. These patches will be larger than before, albeit a little bit more spaced out, and hotfixes will continue to be released as needed. We look forward to fleshing out the game in the new year."
