Concord: A Hero Shooter Launching August 23rd with a Robust Post-Launch Roadmap
Sony and Firewalk Studios' Concord, a hero shooter launching August 23rd on PS5 and PC, will receive ongoing updates starting on day one. The developers have shared details about their post-launch plans, emphasizing a commitment to consistent content drops without relying on a traditional battle pass system.
No Battle Pass, Meaningful Rewards
Firewalk Studios opted against a battle pass, focusing instead on rewarding players through gameplay. Leveling up accounts and characters, and completing objectives will provide meaningful rewards. This decision aims to create a rewarding experience from the outset.
Season 1: The Tempest - Arriving in October
Season 1, titled "The Tempest," launches in October and includes:
- A new playable Freegunner character.
- A brand-new map.
- Additional Freegunner Variants.
- New cosmetics and rewards.
- Weekly Cinematic Vignettes expanding the Northstar crew's story.
- An in-game store offering purely cosmetic items with no gameplay impact.
Season 2 and Beyond
Season 2 is planned for January 2025, with Firewalk Studios promising regular seasonal updates throughout Concord's first year.
Concord Gameplay and Crew Builder
Game director Ryan Ellis highlighted Concord's unique "Crew Builder" system. Players create teams of five Freegunners, allowing up to three copies of any Variant. This allows for strategic team composition based on playstyle and match challenges. Balancing your team with diverse Freegunner roles unlocks Crew Bonuses, offering benefits like increased mobility and reduced cooldowns. Instead of traditional roles like Tank or Support, Concord's Freegunners focus on high DPS, with roles (Anchor, Breacher, Haunt, Ranger, Tactician, and Warden) defined by their impact on the battlefield.
Concord's launch represents the start of a long-term vision for the game, with a strong emphasis on providing consistent and engaging content updates for players.
