The Atomfall Developers Knew It Would Be Compared to Fallout as Soon as It Was Revealed, Average Playthrough Around 25 Hours

At first glance, you might mistake Atomfall for a Fallout-style game, perhaps even envisioning an *actual* Fallout game set in a post-apocalyptic England instead of America. Atomfall is a first-person, post-nuclear game with an alt-history design, much like the renowned Fallout series. However, despite these similarities, Atomfall stands distinctively on its own, as highlighted by Ryan Greene, the art director at developer Rebellion.

Greene acknowledges the inevitable comparisons to Fallout, noting that the development team was prepared for this from the outset. "Once you play the game, you realize it's not Fallout, but yes, we knew," Greene shared with IGN. He also mentioned that one of Rebellion's owners, Jason Kingsley, is a big Fallout fan, which naturally drew some parallels. "And those guys are great at what they do. And that's cool," Greene added, showing appreciation for the Fallout team's work.

Yet, Atomfall diverges significantly from the Fallout formula, as IGN pointed out last August. Greene emphasized that these comparisons can be misleading. "Once you play it for a bit, you're like, oh, this is its own thing for sure," he said. Rebellion, the independent British studio behind the Sniper Elite franchise, aims to offer a unique gaming experience with Atomfall, despite it being their first venture into a game of this scope. "The reality is, here's this very successful franchise and we're version 1.0," Greene noted, expressing gratitude for being compared to such a skilled team.

Greene estimated that an average playthrough of Atomfall would take about "25-ish hours," with completionists likely to extend their playtime significantly. Interestingly, Atomfall allows players to go through the entire game with a high level of violence. "You can kill anyone or everyone if you choose," Greene confirmed. "That's fine. We have multiple finishes to the game, so some of those would shut down if you were supposed to work with them throughout, but you'll find multiple other routes to finish the game and achieve a result."
