Battlefield Labs: Shaping the Future of Battlefield Through Community Collaboration
Direct Player Influence on Future Battlefield Games
On February 3, 2025, Battlefield Studios, in partnership with Electronic Arts (EA), announced Battlefield Labs, a groundbreaking program prioritizing player feedback. This initiative allows players to actively test and provide feedback on game concepts, mechanics, and features for upcoming Battlefield titles.
The announcement emphasized the critical development phase the next Battlefield game is entering, highlighting the unprecedented opportunity for community collaboration. Players will play a pivotal role in shaping the game's development by testing new features and mechanics.
Battlefield Studios will initially invite a select group of players from European and North American servers to participate in the first phase of Battlefield Labs. While a specific release date remains unannounced, interested individuals can register their interest via [ttpp]this link[ttpp].
"This game has immense potential," stated Vince Zampella, Head of Respawn & Group GM for EA Studios Organization. "Being in the pre-alpha stage, now is the perfect time to test the experiences our teams have developed for our upcoming launch. Battlefield Labs empowers us to do just that."
While participation in Battlefield Labs is initially limited, Battlefield Studios assures the wider community will receive regular updates throughout testing, ensuring everyone can follow the development progress. Furthermore, the studio plans to continue community collaboration for future Battlefield titles.
"Battlefield Studios comprises DICE, creators of the Battlefield franchise; Ripple Effect, a studio led by franchise veterans working on a new experience; Motive, developers of Star Wars Squadrons and Dead Space; and Criterion, renowned for racing franchises and their contributions to various Battlefield titles."
Features and Mechanics in Battlefield Labs
Selected players will test specific aspects of the unfinished game, allowing for timely feedback integration. Battlefield Studios revealed the focus areas for this collaborative effort:
"We'll begin by testing core pillars like combat and destruction," explained Battlefield Studios. "This will transition to balancing and feedback on weapons, vehicles, and gadgets, culminating in testing how these elements interact within maps, modes, and squad play." Two established modes, Conquest and Breakthrough, will also be included, providing opportunities to explore improvements.
Conquest features large-scale battles centered around capturing Control Points (flags). Teams have a limited number of tickets, and losing all tickets results in defeat. Tickets are lost upon respawn or when the enemy controls more flags.
Breakthrough divides players into attackers and defenders. Attackers capture sectors, while defenders impede their progress. A ticket system similar to Conquest is used, with attackers regaining tickets by securing sectors and eliminating remaining enemies.
Battlefield Studios also aims to refine the class system, recognizing the value of player feedback despite the game's current progress. The team believes player input will be crucial in achieving the perfect balance of form, function, and feel.
