Could Monster Hunter Wilds Introduce a New Weapon?
A 15th Weapon Remains a Possibility

With the weapon roster unchanged since Monster Hunter 4 debuted the Insect Glaive over ten years ago, fans speculate whether Monster Hunter Wilds might finally expand its arsenal. In a February 16, 2025 interview with PCGamesN, director Yuya Tokuda discussed the potential for adding a new weapon.
While Monster Hunter Wilds offers 14 weapon choices - mirroring the selection available since MH4 - Tokuda confirmed the team repeatedly considered introducing additional options during MH World and Wilds' development. "It's never been ruled out," he explained. "We simply haven't committed to introducing something new in recent installments."
The director elaborated on the design challenges: "Creating a weapon that complements our existing lineup without overlapping too much proves surprisingly difficult. With each game, we refine all weapons - adjusting movesets, combos, and how they interact to keep gameplay fresh. These enhancements require significant resources that we've historically prioritized over adding completely new weapon types."
Capcom's Approach to Weapon Refinement in Wilds

Capcom continues innovating through features like Focus Mode and Power Clash while carefully preserving each weapon's core identity. Though incorporating beta feedback, Tokuda stressed: "We avoid changes so radical they'd make weapons unrecognizable."
"For each title, we establish clear gameplay concepts for weapons - defining how the Insect Glaive should handle versus the Great Sword," Tokuda explained. "However, only player testing reveals whether our vision translates effectively in practice."
Regarding Wilds' weapon adjustments, Tokuda acknowledged unique challenges following Iceborne: "As an expansion, Iceborne introduced advanced moves assuming player mastery. Wilds represents a clean slate - we reevaluated every element against our gameplay vision rather than automatically carrying over popular features."
Monster Hunter Now Announces Wilds Crossover Phase 2

Celebrating Wilds' impending launch, Monster Hunter Now's second crossover phase debuts February 28, 2025. Players encounter Chatacabra while earning twelve Wilds-themed Hope weapons and exclusive layered armor sets inspired by the Seikret mount and Hope armor designs.
Completing time-limited quests grants vouchers redeemable for Wilds items including Mega Potions, Dust of Life, and Dash Juice - usable across all platforms. During February 18's Season 5 briefing, Niantic's Sakae Osumi teased ongoing collaborations: "This marks just the beginning of our Wilds integration. We aim to introduce more monsters and content alongside Capcom."
