Notably, Helldivers 2 is the fastest-selling PlayStation Studios game to date, achieving an incredible 12 million copies sold within just 12 weeks. This record-breaking performance is unlikely to be surpassed by any other first-party Sony-developed game. Since its explosive launch, the game has navigated through various challenges, including a significant reversal on PSN account requirements on Steam, review-bomb campaigns, and a community often clashing over game updates that either overstepped or fell short of expectations.
Arrowhead has faced the challenge of managing a vastly larger and more mainstream playerbase than ever before. Now, 14 months after Helldivers 2's debut on PC and PlayStation 5, the studio is reflecting on its journey. Has Arrowhead finally mastered the demanding landscape of live-service gaming? IGN had the opportunity to delve deeper into these questions with Alex Bolle, the production director of Helldivers 2, to gain insights into Arrowhead's experiences and future plans.
