Bloodborne can be emulated on PC with almost stable 60 fps

Digital Foundry's Thomas Morgan recently conducted a thorough evaluation of Bloodborne on the ShadPS4 emulator, focusing on performance and the technical enhancements introduced by the modding community.

For his analysis, Morgan utilized the ShadPS4 0.5.1 build by diegolix29, which is derived from a custom branch developed by raphaelthegreat. He found this build to be the most effective on a PC equipped with an AMD Ryzen 7 5700X processor and a GeForce RTX 4080 GPU after testing various versions.

To improve the visual experience, Morgan suggested applying the Vertex Explosion Fix mod, which addresses visual glitches such as stretched or misaligned polygons. Although this mod disables the option to customize the character’s face before starting the game, it effectively eliminates these visual issues. Notably, no other essential mods are necessary as the emulator itself integrates all required enhancements. Users can access a dedicated menu within the emulator to adjust settings like enabling 60 fps, boosting resolution to 4K, or turning off chromatic aberration.

Morgan observed that Bloodborne generally maintained a 60 fps performance on the emulator, though it experienced occasional stuttering. He experimented with higher resolutions, specifically 1440p and 1800p, which enhanced image detail but led to performance degradation and increased frequency of crashes. Consequently, he recommends maintaining the game at 1080p, similar to the PS4 standard, or at 1152p for the best balance between performance and visual quality.

Morgan praised the ShadPS4 team's monumental efforts in achieving PS4 emulation, highlighting that Bloodborne performs impressively on the emulator despite remaining technical challenges.
